However, the pictures below are of XPS 15 laptops, and the claims have been corroborated by numerous reported owners, so this seems more than just speculative claims. Currently, it appears that only the Core iHK powered model has the same heatsink as in the XPS 15 service manual. As we covered in our previous articles, insufficient VRM cooling can and does lead to thermal throttling, as many people with the XPS 15 will attest.

I then exchanged the laptop for another of the same model and specs at the Microsoft Store, as a new laptop fresh out of the box shouldn't have such an issue.
However, the same problem persisted. As I'm writing this, I have 5 tabs of Microsoft Edge along with 2 tabs of Google Chrome open, yet the fan is still working double time.
I know this can't be normal, especially since this is supposed to be a top of the line machine. My MacBook Pro of a similar price is currently running 50 tabs of Google Chrome, 40 tabs of Safari, and 10 other applications, yet is completely silent.
I purchased the Dell XPS 15 because I read and was told it was the closest Windows compatible machine to a Mac in terms of power, reliability, and quality. However, the apparent discrepancy in performance is pretty egregious. When I plug the XPS into the docking station but leave the lid closed, the fan gets extremely loud.
The laptop and docking station also get a bit warm. I'm not sure of what could be causing this. The only compatibility issue I know of is that the ts3 plus has a maximum output of 85W, while my XPS charger is W. So with this mod Im able to game under 80c and temps are more stable and not jumping all over the place.

It is connected to what i wrote earlier, no turbo means no additional power to cpu so no additional heat. Best way to make it cooler is UV. No other way at least until you need your warranty. There's no harm in doing it, and I've done for my 2-in-1 while waiting for the drivers and BIOS updates.

You cannot do a lot against the power limit throttling which is goodbut thermal throttling can be solved completely with this machine. Problem2 : CPU temps were not too bad out of the box. Temps are now going up much slower, even without thermal throttling at all.
The cpu frequency of the machine is now solely limited by the power limits of the VRMs. You can see that the package power is constantly hitting the 56W mark right top and the CPU frequency is extremely stable.
